Another Option |
|
Could you add another option?
All novice classes and Jr. Sportsman/Cadet 100% Qual if class size is greater than 10 racers everyone else 50/50 with majority of Qual at beginning of year (so inexperienced racers get some racing laps under thier belts before starting them upfront on race 1).
I think this could amend the Rookie rule of 3 races at the rear to only for the pea pick races or have 3 races of Qual. Basically if a rookie began with the club at the beginning of the year and we were using the Qual. as setting the grid I don't think it would be necessary to have them start dead last for 3 races. But if a rookie enters at mid year and we are doing pea pick format then maybe first race at the rear for evaluation and then decide if next race should be rear or by pea pick and repeat for the next race. I remember a Rumsey girl that had to go with the first 3 races at the rear in her first season when she had had alot of practice experience and was worthy of starting up front. With the 3 races at the rear she had no chance at the championship that year. My suggestion would be a way to not penalize this type of racer again but yet allow for some evaluation before throwing anyone to the wolves.

Wow...what an option...kinda complicated though, and that would be the problem with the club...Trying to sit through a BOD meeting is kind of like sitting on a hot oven for 5-6 hours at a time...and trying to explain something that complicated would probably take 7-8 meetings to make everyone happy with all the changes,,,,etc...and we would end up where we are now. Trust me, if any of this has any chance of going through, it better be simple.

The problems with slower vs. faster drivers mostly happen with the big classes, but you cannot have just a few classes qualifying, while the rest sit in the pits under pea-pick.
I would support 100% qualifying if it increases the overall safety of the racing.

Why not?
Just have everyone pick a number in sign in for pea pick. If the class is over 10 karts. The first heat turns to qualifying. And the number you pick in the pea pick turns into the order you go out.
I've helped the local track here with the timing and scoring and unless the RaceLaps is that weird and hard. It's very easy to use the computer. It's not like it's the 80's when all the scoring was done by hand.

If safety is of no concern to you, then you should be no where near a racing kart.
Karting has the potential to be quite dangerous, so if little things can be done like always putting the slower karts to the rear, then fine. Those slower karts also tend to be the least experienced racers, as well.
Safety should be everyone's concern, especially since without the insurance the OVKA carries, there would be no OVKA to race in. You might want to keep that in mind.

With the pea pick you can just block your way to a good finish.

passing is also very unsafe, along with high speeds through the corners, plus theres a good chance of a paper cut at regestration. What can we do about these cause I want to be as safe as possable?

Same with qualifying. The guy in the lead isn't always the fastest or best kart.

Chad you must have misunderstood my comment. What I'm saying is this sport is dangerous but if you are worried about safety this just isn't the sport for you.

One problem with "Pea Pick" is that the computer choose your grid.
It is not so bad if your classes small up to may be 6 or 8.
I always thought I was lucky to get somewhere in the middle if the class size is 12 or more.
When you are in the middle of the grid;
For fast guys, you have less karts to pass to be in the front.
For Slower guys, you have less karts will pass you.
Anyway, I always thought 3rd heats were always good races because most of times there were few packs of karts in the class racing each others. But I don't see much in 1st and 2nd heats.
