Seems to me that Rain Dates would be a good compromise?

Rain date!
You don't have to show up if your sure its goining to rain, you don't buy points and eventually you get to race on a dry track which I think we all want to do.

I would prefer to race in the rain BUT the bod could at least give us rain dates. My guess is they will give us NOTHING.

The only problem that I see with rain dates..is we are really never sure that it is going to rain, so you have to show up anyway....if you are already there...why not race? We race in the rain at the Nationals and the regionals,,so why not practice for that at the local level?

Good luck finding a track crew that is willing to stand out in the rain for 6 hours. The racers at least have the advantage of a trailer to return to.

Well...don't we have little ezup canopies for the track workers somewhere...they are used for the sun??? Why not use them for rain?
And I am sure that we can afford some rain suits for the track workers...and If we pay more for the track workers,,it will take a little of the edge off of it....Trust me, you pay someone enough money, they will work in the rain...Sorry if you don't want to Chad...but there are a lot of people that are out of work right now, and tax free money??? Hmmm that is a good thing

Those E-z-ups protect the corner workers from the sun very little. Maybe your head. Your arms, legs and body still get scorched. They are 3'x3'. Given any wind while its raining, and you are looking at very unhappy corner workers, no matter how much they are being paid.
If I am still head flag next year, I wouldn't be an issue for me, the flag tower has a roof.

Ok,,so no offense here Chad...but, let's look at it this way...I am going to listen to 5 corner workers gripe and complain about working in the rain, and getting paid good money to do it. So they gripe enough, and we don't race in the rain...ok,,they show up, and get paid for a full day of work???? That makes no sense at all...So...if you show up, and it's raining...no money for you, cause you didn't do anything, how's that?
As a racer..we have to show up, drag the trailer there, and spend the fuel for the tow vehicle, (which in my case is pretty expensive) A lot of us show up at least a day early to get in some practice, so we miss work, and lose money that way, then,,,,,,,we have to pay for racing, that we don't get to do??????
Ok,,,so all totalled,,,,,that equals a whole lot of money that we have to spend to not race, and a whole lot of money that that corner worker gets to shoe up and stand around and drink coffee for an hour and a half...
sound right to you?????

You don't exactly come away empty handed: rain points.
Granted, it isn't the same thing as racing, but that is the policy the OVKA has worked under for the last 5 years that I've been there.
A track worker doesn't get paid for "not working" unless they had committed to working as of Tuesday before the race, and showed up at the track to actually work. Thus, they still get their money. Or a P. Which ever it was they committed to doing.
As I mentioned back on the other forum, I get paid more money to fix one computer than I do to wave a flag for people to ignore at-will. It is, for me, about enjoying the races and enjoying helping out. I don't enjoy standing in the rain, no matter how much you offer me. Maybe 'cause I am gainfully employed I can have this attitude.
With enough money, you will certainly find someone that will stand out in the corners in the rain.

But in my opinion...walking away with rain points...is empty handed.
I have to agree, that if you have a great job outside of racing, you are less apt to be happy about standing in the rain, but there are racing organizations everywhere that race in the rain, and the corner workers work rain or shine.

Dude, you haven't even come close to attacking me. I come from the old school internet, late 80's with BBSes and until you begin attacking my familial lineage, ethnicity, religion, choice of college major and the computer I use, all taken to high forms of art back to then, you are downright civil with your whining and complaining.

And, more than likely, the current corner workers will stand out there, as well. Well, 3 of them. We all had a meeting and discussed this very topic and it was nearly 50/50 as to who would still work or not.
Another factor would be if it is a spotty shower day, or constant rain fall. Constant rain fall just sucks.
